EXTERIOR PAINTING MADE EASY

The outside looks of your home should be as pleasant as the interior so painting the exterior is the first step that you have to do toward making it your home.

Your friendly paint shop staff can help you in choosing the right paint for your house. Discuss with him the materials in your home – whether its drywall, plaster, stucco, brick or wood because different surfaces require different preparations and coatings. Preparation and choosing a quality coating are two basic steps in achieving a durable and long-lasting paint job.

Now that you have everything on hand, let the painting start!

Check the temperature. It is best to work with a temperature higher than 50 degrees. Also check for the dampness of the surfaces, it should not be damp otherwise paint will form bubbles and chip off. Also avoid painting during foggy weather.

Clean the surfaces. Remove dust and dirt, old chipping paint, rough spots and protruding nail heads before filling putty when it’s dry.

Mix paint thoroughly by stirring well before and during use to ensure color uniformity.

Painting tips: always paint from the top down to avoid drips and spatters, brushing and rolling is the best choice in painting methods. Spraying is also but it requires more skills and practice to achieve the desired results. The method you choose will depend mainly on the chosen paint and construction of your home. Some requires a combination of both, some don’t.

Consider that in this activity, you are required to be physically fit and capable of hard work. Another thing, exterior painting is a dirty job especially if your house is really in a bad shape.

Exterior painting is hard work and by doing it yourself, you may or may not achieve the results that you’ve been wanting. Planning exterior painting means a lot of things and thinking to do so you really need to carefully plan it otherwise you’ll end up wasting the paint you’ve purchased. So give effort in planning and understanding the steps and work before starting the project.
